Today’s Neighborhood Noise That Wakes Up Napping Babies Is…

the opening of an old rusty ladder that will be used to do some roofing by three old men who, from the looks of it, have no business fixing anything, let alone a roof.

Three elderly roofers who woke Dylan up from a nap just as soon as I got a chance to sit down for the first time today: Fuck you sirs. Fuck you and I hope your roof remains perpetually leaky.

I have half a mind to go over there and remove the ladder.

That was the nicest revenge I’m willing write here.

Downside Of Being A Stay At Home Dad

When the boy takes a giant poop and the moment of truth is upon us, when I open the diaper, and “OOOOHHHHHHHH MAN! THAT’S SERIOUSLY GROSS! GLEGH! That might have been THE worst and smelliest diaper I have ever changed.”, there’s no one to hear me or to show it to. No one to commiserate with me, no one to sympathize with me….

#StayAtHomeDadProblems…means reading these nasty posts are #thegreatdaddyprojectfollowersproblems.

Sorry.

But not really.

Movin’ Fast

Yesterday was a pretty big day for Dylan, meaning a big day for us. While sitting in his crib, he just grabbed the side and proceeded to pull himself up to a standing postion for the first time. He can’t even crawl forward yet, and he pulled himself up. The look on his face said, “Yeah, I can do this now. What’s the big deal? Oh, and I can jump.”

Which is what he started to do.

His looked at me and his eyes read, “You like that? Your gonna love this…” as he let go of the side of the crib…and fell on his ass. He looked a little defeated for a beat, but than his toes caught his attention. Despite the defeating fall, pretty big deal around here to be sure.

Later that evening, in an effort to outdo himself, while playing with Christina, he started to crawl. Yeah. Crawl.

He looked at us, saw our smiling faces and his demenor said, “Yeah. I do this now too. You’ve been warned.”

Well, I guess we’re mobile now.

Again, in an effort to show us he’s no slotch in the growing up department yesterday, we saw that not only is his cutting his top two front teeth, but two more on either side of the bottom front that are already there.

For those keeping score, we got a a full pull up and jump, crawling, and two more teeth coming through. In one day.

This kid has got to have a pause button somewhere….

Teachable Moment

I spoke to Christina earlier today and we spoke about how she was having a really rough day, no doubt in part to last night’s adventures. After I got off the phone with her, I told Dylan that Mama was having a pretty crummy day and we should do something nice for her when she comes home. I told him how it’s always a nice gesture to make Mama’s bad days better. He nodded in agreement and off to the kitchen we went!

So, I thought making some Red Velvet Cheesecake Brownies as a surprise might help make her bad day better.

A Coney Island Sunday

Coney Island. The “Big Coney” as we call it around our house. It’s one of our favorite places on this planet. Sure, the gutting of the area and pretty new facelift it has received a couple of years ago makes it a little more aesthetically pleasing and a little safer after dusk thus making it a little more family friendly is nice for the kids. Me? I prefer my Coney Island a little more dangerous, like I remember it from my youth. There’s a certain charm that accompanies the old school Coney Danger Factor. Nevertheless, the new version is here, and yesterday we decided to expose the boy to a little action that’s only 30 minutes from home.

All in all it was pretty great day…if you don’t count the 70 minutes of us waiting for a StrongMan demonstration that never seemed to happen (Dylan was so well behaved considering all the people around), or the nearly two hour traffic ridden drive home (Dylan slept to whole ride). Aside from that, things were awesome. The sun was shining, Dylan was rocking his fisherman’s hat.

And for a few brief hours, all was right with the world.

Until we were leaving and as I was putting Dylan in his car seat, I got a nice handful of shit for my efforts. Apparently, the boy had snuck in a poop on the way to the car. A poop that the good people of Huggies assured me wouldn’t leak out, but most certainly did. Sabotaged by Huggies, we had to change the little guy in the backseat of our very small car which also houses a car seat. No easy feat to be sure. Lesson #6564689 of parenting: Learn to roll with punches…or the poops.

Being at the parks/beach really got me excited for the day when the little Dude can jump on some rides and really enjoy Coney Island the way it should be. Which incidentally has gotten waaaay too overpriced since the renovation ($10 to ride a very mediocre ride for 3 minutes!)

We’re looking to take the boy over to Coney a lot more over the summer, as he really seemed to like the sights and sounds of all the action.
